This model represents Dove Cottage in Grasmere, the home of the poet William Wordsworth from 1799 to 1808. Despite the term cottage, it is a complex interlocking structure of several extensions, including a stable. This makes for a large model.
The model comprises a cottage with two downstairs and upstairs rooms as well as a small one-up, one-down extension, known to Dorothy Wordsworth as the ‘out-jutting’. There is also an attached stable with a room above, the latter accessed from the first floor of the cottage. A 'blind' staircase is included, as well as fittings for the stable and a garden bench. A garden wall surrounds the cottage at the front and upon the left.
